Hello
I would like some advice/ help from people on a fault with my TPMS system on my Kona EV. I have a deal through a salary sacrifice scheme that includes maintenance so, when I got a screw in my tyre, I rang the helpline and got booked in with National Tyres (they only seem to use fast fit centres) for a repair. I was surprised that they ended up changing the tyre as there was a screw in the tread and not the side wall- I noticed this as the tyre had been changed for a Goodyear tyre and not the OE Nexen tyres. When I questioned this with the tyre place they said 'that's what happens with lease cars'.
I drove around 2 miles and the TPMS fault light came on the dash- the one for system and not a tyre being low. I got out of the car and checked the pressure in all 4 tyres and then reset the system and carried on because I needed to get back to work. The fault reappeared shortly afterwards.
I went back to the garage 2 days later and they took the wheel off and told me there were no sensors on the wheels (as the car has indirect TPMS). They advised to reset the system and then run the car for over 30 minutes. I told them I had done this as my work commute is 35 minutes anyway. I was then told that it needed to be a consistent speed and if this didn't work it would need to be booked in with Hyundai. I tried the reset down the motorway but again, the fault appeared within a couple of miles.
Leaseplan were contacted and booked me in with my local main dealer who immediately told me that the car needed to have matching tyres for the system to work. They still inspected the car, but this is what they reported back to me on the sheet when I collected it. I contacted Leaseplan again who put me through to the tyre team who advised a tyre inspection would be needed- I told them it would pass a tyre inspection as all of the tyres are above the legal limit and in good condition.
I have just contacted the garage that the car is booked with for the tyre inspection and they have informed me that all they will be doing is checking the tyres meet legal requirements! I knew the lady from Leaseplan was not listening to the problem as most of the call she was talking over me.
Has anyone had a similar issue or can help with how to rectify this please? I'm at a bit of a loss and have launched a complaint with Leaseplan as to how this has been handled. For info, the car had travelled around 2000 miles when the tyre was changed. Could I ask for another Goodyear to be put on the back to balance the axle and will the system then work? If they eventually get me another Nexen tyre, will the system work properly as the other tyres will have done around 2500 miles by then and will slightly worn?
I attach a photo of the tyre with the screw in and the printout from Hyundai (note, they have incorrectly said it needs replacing with a Falken tyre at the top but have listed Nexen against the individual tyre inspection). Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you.
