Hi everyone.
I picked up my new electric Kona Ultimate last week and am totally new to Hyundai.
I like the car but one thing that is bugging me is the default speed notification which dings every time the car thinks it detects a speed limit change, and dings again every time it thinks I am one mile an hour over the limit. With all the different speed limit signs in Wales now, there is a constant dinging at this is irritating me and my passengers.
The car offers 4 levels of speed limit notification but as far as I can tell always reverts to the one that dings. But no one else seems to have mentioned it here. So do you all find this not to be an issue, or have you found a way around the irritation?

Ooops. Just noticed that this was raised before. (I did an earlier search but missed it - sorry). That seems to confirm my view of the problem but it did not seem to generate much concern. Has anyone tried asking Hyundai to allow a silent option remain after the car is stopped?
Speed limit notifications
I have only just taken delivery of my new Kona Hybrid. Mostly a great car but massively let down by the very annoying alerts which reset every time the car is switched off.
These absolutely should be a driver preference and be linked to the driver profile.
I am so cross about this, especially not being made aware during the test drive, that I am seriously considering finding a way to return the car as it ruins my drive experience.
It is simply not acceptable to have to set so many options on start up just to get the car to drive like a normal vehicle.
Technology is supposed to help, not hinder.
When did we become slaves to the machine?
The main issue is the speed aware limit. Even 1mph over the 'speed limit' triggers the warnings. How bad is that. Bearing in mind the actual speed is not totally accurate against a calibrated GPS I am actually getting pinged below the speed limit. Very annoying.
Add in the fact I live in an area with many schools, all of which display the '20mph when lights flash' signs and apparently I am driving illegally at 21mph all the time, weekends, evenings, and all other times when the lights are not flashing and the schools are closed.
I get that this is now a legal thing in Europe (soon to be everywhere). But I still believe it should be a driver profile option.
If this is not considered acceptable by Hyundai then tone it down a bit. Use the 'speed limit' dot on the dashboard speedo as the only warning (changes to red) with a single ping only. Not regular chimes and flashing (distracting) speed limit symbols.
Oh, and while this is being looked at, get some proper info in the system about the speed limits and locations of changes. I get advised of apparent 'changes' that don't exist according to road signs. GPS accuracy perhaps?
Next issue is the 'alertness' warning. Telling me off for taking my eyes off the road. Well, perhaps if the car didn't light up like a Christmas tree every time I exceed the speed limit by 1mph, or make the mistake of smoothing out a bend when there is no traffic around me then perhaps I'd be less distracted by the dashboard and concentrate more on the road.
And yes, the lane warning is an issue. OK, I can switch that one off (relatively) easily every time, but why should I have too? A software change for all of these to make them profile selectable and dependant would be a massive step forward.
Hyundai, listen to your forums, look online at other areas and posts. This is not a good thing and it is being widely complained about across the world!
You've made a mechanically great car. It drives well, good feel on the road. Much good stuff.

I'm not sure I agree with you dbrewood.
I believe that the law says that a warning/alert about speed limits and possibly exceeding them may not be turned off permanently, and should be reset after a re-start. I am grateful to my car for telling me what it thinks the speed limit is, even though that is often wrong and sometimes even amusingly so. I am happy to have that visual information remain, it is the dinging that is distracting and annoying and I don't believe that the law states that the dinging has to be there.
Whatever, I certainly wish it wasn't there and I don't want to have to turn up the radio to avoid hearing it. I want to hear the odd warning ding. That is helpful. But not a distracting ding every 200 yds, or so, as I drive through town.

Each to his or her own I guess. On my current 2022 plate Tucson it annoys me that when the sped limit changes I have to put up with an icon change which can be easy to miss. For me I'm looking forward to a bong to alert me of the change.
